No electricity, no running water, no sterile room, no medical equipment. There are six patient beds available, with mattresses that cause nausea from dirt and wear. The only sink serves as a shelf and would need to be cleaned urgently. But with what, if there is no water? 28 births take place here every month. The mortality rate is
extremely high. Although the patients here are treated free of charge by chief physician Dr. Fidienne and her eight-member team of nurses, caregivers and trainees, they have to provide or pay for their own medicines and meals. The kitchen is an open fireplace in the yard.
